Hospitality Key Stage 4

Introduction

Do you enjoy cooking? Have you ever thought of running your own business? If yes, Hospitality and catering is for you.
You will develop your culinary skills in our state of the art catering suite, alongside learning about customer service; finance; health and safety, event and business management. This is an extremely successful course, with pupils achieving 100% A*-C.

The course

This is a two-year course, consisting of two units. One of the units is assessed by controlled assignments and the other unit being a written external examination.

Unit 1
The Hospitality and Catering Industry (40% external exam)
You will gain an understanding of how hospitality and catering provisions operate and the health and safety requirements of the industry.

Unit 2
Hospitality and Catering in Action (60%controlled assessment)
During this unit you will learn culinary skills to be able to safely plan, prepare, cook and present nutritional dishes.

Assessment

There will be a mix of written assignments/coursework, events, and practical cooking. There will also be an external written exam in year 10, with an opportunity to re-sit in year 11 if you want to improve your grade.

Progression

This course provides the perfect foundation for the Level 3 BTEC National in Hospitality which is also offered at Morriston Comprehensive School in Years 12 and 13. Both courses form an introduction to any vocation that involves Hospitality, Catering or business management.
