Health and Wellbeing

DEPARTMENT LEADER: Joanne Smith

Health and Wellbeing is a new and exciting Area of Learning encompassing Food, PSE and Sport. The department is developing the curriculum to ensure our learners become ethical informed citizens where ambition is nurtured and celebrated. Each child will have the opportunity of how to become healthy confident learners while developing their creativity in all aspects of life.

Key Stage 3

At key stage 3 pupils actively participate in Physical education, food and PSE lessons. From 2020 year 7 will be taught through a themed curriculum encompassing the three areas of health and Wellbeing creating a holistic approach to their learning. Years 8 and 9 will continue to learn through the subject specific route, with local and national related issues dropped into lessons where appropriate. For Physical education lessons all pupils must wear their school kit.

Key Stage 4

GCSE Physical Education

This subject is very successful and established with 95% or more of our candidates achieving an A-C grade over the last five years. The candidate should be regularly participating in a number of sporting and/or physical pursuits. There has to be a genuine interest in all aspects of sport, training and human movement.

You will develop your culinary skills in our state of the art catering suite, alongside learning about customer service; finance; health and safety, and business management. This is an extremely successful course, with pupils achieving 100% A*-C.
