Uniform Letter – September 2023

Dear Parent/Carer,

We as a school are working hard to maintain high standards. Whether it be behaviour, uniform or academic success we strive for the best for all our pupils. We pride ourselves on strong home-school links and recognise the part you play in this as parents and carers. Maintaining high standards without your support would not be possible.

We appreciate that you will soon be thinking about buying uniform for September and want to clarify our uniform for next year to avoid misunderstandings and to ensure you do not incur any unnecessary expense by purchasing incorrect items.

Uniform is an important part of a school’s identity. It reinforces who we are as a community and helps allow pupils to feel pride in their school. It also ensures pupils are not put under any pressure because of the type of clothes they wear, and all are treated equally.  Can I take this opportunity to thank you for supporting our stance on uniform.

We believe our uniform code is simple, clear and cost effective. We appreciate that families are facing significant increases in the cost of living and we have modified our uniform to reduce costs.

please note the following:

  • We have decided to only have two badged items as part of our uniform from September. Please note to reduce costs for parents we will accept plain white polo shirts next year. These can be purchased cheaply at various shops and supermarkets.
  • From September we will only accept black school trousers or black skirt. Leggings or joggers will not be permitted.
  • Hoodies are not permitted as outer wear. Pupils who turn up to school wearing hoodies will have them confiscated.
  • From September our refurbished changing rooms will be completed, meaning we will be able to use the PE changing rooms. We will be expecting all pupils to be in full school uniform every day and change into their PE kit for the lesson.

To avoid any misunderstandings or unnecessary expense, our expectations with regards to uniform are as follows:

Uniform

  • Black MCS Sweatshirt with school badge
  • Plain white or white School badged Polo shirt
  • Plain black school trousers or skirt [no leggings /jogging bottoms /cargo trousers]
  • Suitable school coat-ALL coats /jackets need to be removed when in class

Footwear

Pupils are allowed to wear plain black, shoes/trainers to school. The soles need to be black and there should be no visible markings on the shoe/trainer itself.

PE Kit

  • Black school badged or plain black loose-fitting shorts
  • Black tracksuit bottoms/leggings.
  • Tops should be a royal blue badged Morriston T Shirt/rugby shirt
  • Pupils do not need to purchase a PE outdoor top-this is optional not compulsory
  • Pupils need to wear trainers suitable for sporting activities.
  • Canvas trainers such as Converse or Vans are not suitable for PE lessons and therefore are not permitted to be worn with the PE kit

Jewellery

The school policy regarding jewellery has not changed. Pupils are allowed to wear a watch   and a single stud in each earlobe, no other jewellery is allowed. Facial piercings are not permitted due to the health and safety risk they pose. If a pupil fails to follow these rules, items of jewellery may be confiscated and kept in the school office to be collected by a parent/carer.

We are aware that on the very rare occasion your child may be out of uniform for a genuine reason. Please provide your child with a note if this is the case- we can then put a note on the register to prevent them being asked by staff about their uniform all day.

Can I remind parents/carers that we also have a significant amount of pre-loved uniform that has been laundered and is in a very good condition. Please contact Mrs K Terry, Family Engagement Officer if you require further information.

If you have any concerns with regards to uniform, please contact your child’s Wellbeing Officer/ Progress Leader in the first instance. If you have a more specific query, please do not hesitate in contacting myself.

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Altman

Assistant Headteacher
