GCSE Health and Social Care, and Childcare (WJEC)
This GCSE gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to explore how people grow, develop and are supported throughout their lives. It focuses on real-life situations and helps students understand how health, social care and childcare services work in Wales.
What will learners study?
Students will explore:
- Human development and wellbeing from infancy through to later adulthood
- Factors affecting health, including lifestyle, environment and relationships
- Care and childcare services in Wales, including the roles of professionals and how support is provided
- Common illnesses and conditions affecting adults and children
- Child development, including physical, social, emotional, intellectual and language development

How is the course assessed?
The qualification is made up of three units:
- Unit 1 (40%) – Written exam (1 hour 30 minutes)
- Unit 2 (30%) – Coursework on Adult Health and Social Care
- Unit 3 (30%) – Coursework on Childcare
