GCSE Religious Studies (WJEC)

GCSE Religious Studies helps students understand different beliefs, cultures and ethical issues in the modern world. It encourages open-minded thinking and respectful discussion.


What will my child study?

Students will learn about:

  • Christianity (or Catholic Christianity)
  • One world religion (such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism or Sikhism)
  • Non-religious views

They will explore important topics such as:

  • Life, death and what gives life meaning
  • Relationships and family
  • Right and wrong (moral decisions)
  • Human rights and equality
  • Issues like the environment, animal welfare and medical ethics

How is the course assessed?

The course is made up of four parts:

  • 2 written exams (60%)
  • 2 coursework-style projects (40%)

This means students are assessed in different ways, not just through exams.
